Bedfordshire Adult Drug Needs Assesssment

Dec 30, 2013Healthy Communities, Publications, Substance Misuse

Perpetuity were commissioned by Bedfordshire Drug Action Team (B:DAT) to undertake the 2009 adult drug needs assessment. The needs assessment covered two unitary authority areas including Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire. The purpose of the needs assessment was to gather a body of evidence to inform the development of the adult drug treatment plan, submitted to the National Treatment Agency (NTA) in early 2010. Using national needs assessment guidance, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative methods, Perpetuity produced a treatment map to identify the number and type of clients entering, exiting or moving between drug treatment services and a bullseye to estimate the treatment naive population. The qualitative research involved consultation with local stakeholders including service providers, commissioners, practitioners and service users (including parents and carers) to obtain feedback on strengths, weaknesses and recommendations to improve existing provision. The final report presented to B:DAT provided a series of strategic recommendations to inform the key priorities for 2010/2011.
