Derby Adult and Young People Drug Needs Assessment
Perpetuity were commissioned by Derby Community Safety Partnership (DCSP) to undertake the 2009 drug needs assessment for adults and young people. The purpose of the needs assessment was to gather a body of evidence to inform the development of the adult drug treatment plan, submitted to the National Treatment Agency (NTA) in early 2010. Using national needs assessment guidance, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative methods, Perpetuity produced a treatment map to identify the number and type of clients entering, exiting or moving between drug treatment services and a bullseye to estimate the treatment naive population. The qualitative research involved consultation with local stakeholders including service providers, commissioners, practitioners and service users (including parents and carers) to obtain feedback on strengths, weaknesses and recommendations to improve existing provision. The findings from the needs assessment were discussed at an expert panel event hosted by the CSP and Perpetuity and the event was used to validate the suggested strategic recommendations and priorities. The final report presented to the CSP provided a series of strategic recommendations to inform the key priorities for 2010/2011.
