Lloyd’s of London Gain Second Secured Environments Award

Lloyd’s of London has held the Secured Environments award since 2015 and has now successfully been re-accredited for a further 3 years. City of London Police Commissioner, Ian Dyson, presented the award to Jack Kent, Head of Corporate Real Estate.

The Commissioner noted that ‘within an organisation there are important things you need to get right.  You are evidence of getting it right’. He praised the commitment of the senior leadership team and highlighted that by gaining the award the organisation is demonstrating that is has the right training, structure and procedures in place.

Jack Kent reflected that ‘Three years have passed since we were awarded the Secured Environments award and I am very pleased that we have retained the award for a second time given the serious threats and incidents we have seen in the UK. The independent assessment of our security has set the benchmark in security standards which we aspire to uphold on a daily basis. I would like to thank our security team from Vision Security Group for their collaborative approach towards a safer environment for the market, our employees and visitors at Lloyd’s.’

Secured Environments is a police accreditation that was established in 2007 and is awarded by the police to organisations that have demonstrated effective management measures to protect their premises and workforce from criminal activities. The process involved a thorough independent audit, where VSG (the partner supplier) and Lloyd’s were required to evidence how they met six key principles:

1.Commitment (Leadership supports the security function)

2.Understand (Lloyd’s understands its threats)

3.Develop (An appropriate response)

4.Manage (The response effectively)

5.Implement (Solutions effectively)

6.Evaluate (Keep monitoring threats and responses to ensure effectiveness)

The aim of Secured Environments is to help organisations think about their risks and how to make the best use of measures they already have. It is the type of scheme every organisation can and should sign up to.

Adrian Moore, VSG Operations Director said ‘VSG were keen to obtain the award as we wanted an independent check of Lloyd’s security operations. We also wanted something to signal to Lloyd’s stakeholders, and this includes those who work in the building, that we take security seriously and respond appropriately.’
