Stoptober Returns
The approach of October heralds the return of Stoptober – a 28 day challenge providing support to those who would like to stop smoking: https://stoptober.smokefree.nhs.uk/
Stoptober is a public health campaign which is supported by a number of famous comedians such as Rhod Gilbert and Shappi Khorsandi to encourage people to quit smoking for good. According to the campaign, if you manage to stop smoking for 28 days, then you are subsequently five times more likely to stop smoking for good.
Perpetuity has undertaken a number of projects evaluating initiatives to prevent both the uptake of smoking amongst young people and exposure to second hand smoke. A recent example is our evaluation of The Smokescreen Mediology, an innovative campaign to prevent young people taking up smoking. We have found that increasingly innovative approaches are being used to reduce the chances of them becoming one of the estimated 6 million people each year that are killed by tobacco related illness, 600,000 of whom are non-smokers exposed to second-hand smoke.
